On the 23rd March I found rectic eggs fresh on the surface, 3 days later (last sat) I cleaned out the tank and buried the 3 eggs and another I found in a corner. Yesterday I took out food bowls that had been there a day and soaked them overnight. Today I found a baby rectic in the water with them. So I dug up the other eggs to see if there was any more hatching eggs but ....duh duh duh....all 4 eggs were still there!! Now the tank was thoroughy cleaned out and I've seen no more eggs (just had a rummage), so this means that either they've laid a single egg and it's hatched within 6 days or one has given birth to a live young...any one ever heard of that in rectics??

i dont think they can give birth to live young, maybe it was a egg that they had kept in themselves a bit longer so when they laid it it didnt take as long to hatch as normal. Or maybe it was a snail that came in their food and not a retic. Its really odd

Was fish flakes, no chance any of their food was put in with a snail on. Very strange indeed

A single retic egg hatching within days doesn't sound strange to me. Snails often throw out odd eggs here and there between clutches, 6 days isn't super quick plus it depends how developed the snail within the egg was before being laid (as said above). Hatchlings often eat the shell when emerging too so no shell remains would be found.

Retics don't tend to lay in a clump like most other species they spread them around incresing the chances of the egg serviving not all eggs would be eaten by preditors if they spread them around I had retics lay I thought there was 7 eggs I ended up with 24 babies I turned the soil every few days as well and still missed them, they hatched within 7 days
