Back for me too. If some of them didn't stretch so long, i would be sure they had something to do with fruit flies.

im positive they are coming from the food, possibly the cucumber. I am getting really fed up with them, one day there are none the next there are hundreds!!!

Just had a thought, I wonder if the worms are the same as the ones you get in your poo when you are a kid?

I dont know, i was looking on google, i think they might be enchytraeids, they say they are harmless and that they break down waste like earthworms only better. But that doesnt explain why i found them eating my snail babies alive

Could the babies have possibly been dead first?? I had a pair that didn't survive post, and one arrived with them in it like you describe, but i reckon the snail was dead first, and the worms where just 'breaking down waste matter'. (yuk) I used to have a wormery in the back garden for waste when i was a kid, and the 'potworms' were much bigger than these and not naturally occurring, they had to be brought in, but they could be a type of this worm (hopefully). I don't think the worms of the intestinal track live outside the body. I left the worms for 2 weeks in one tank (were not that bad) and then i got fruit flies. Anyone else notice this? www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/swd.htm I can't help but thinking they are fruit fly larva. But what ever they are, they are bloody annoying.

They definately go through the snails digestive systems alive as I've seen them in fresh poo, even high on the tank sides. Not sure about fruit flies, I found 2 in my baby snail tank yesterday but they have no worms in there

I thought that they were dead at first but i got one that had a body left in its shell, it was full of worms and washed it out, i then left the wee guy for a few minutes and he got out and moved around so he wasnt dead, and he started eating straight away, so i presumed he was deep in his shell trying to avoid the worms. I know chinese algae eaters like the slime of goldfish so they will eat away at it, then when they find nice tasting flesh they start to eat at that, maybe its the same with these worms, something attracts them to the snail and then they find out they dont taste too bad so they get stuck in (maybe)

Just found a couple of baby worms in there so the fruit fly theory could be right

What substrate are we all using? I have put my tarantula on the same 'block' as my snails, and he does indeed have a couple of worms now, and he obviously didn't get fed cucumber. Gonna put him back on vermiculite i think.

yeah, but from ebay, and with boiling water as it's faster and kills germs
